Blue Heeler

Also known as the ‘Australian Cattle Dog,’ the Blue Heeler is a common sight on the tray of a tradie’s truck. This is an iconic working dog, traditionally bred for herding cattle in the outback. You can’t get more Aussie than a Blue Heeler; it’s a cross between a collie and a dingo. These dogs make for an intelligent, affectionate pet, but they need regular interaction with owners and exercise.

Jack Russell

Energetic, loyal and brave, Jack Russells are also incredibly lovable. If you’re after an intelligent and lively dog the Jack Russell is it. It’s also small enough to ride in the cab with you and will like to nosey out the window at what’s going on. Jack Russells need to be well trained from the get go, as they do have minds of their own.

Labrador Retriever

Labradors are known for their placid nature and lovable nature. They have the ability to adapt to their environment, be it relaxing in the shade or running around a park. Labs make great family pets and will happily fetch and carry if trained to do so. They were originally bred to retrieve the cork floats from the nets of fishermen. You’ll need to keep an eye on their weight though as they love food.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier

The Staffy is a popular companion for tradies, being rugged, affectionate and hardy. They’re also great with kids and very protective, despite getting a bad rap for being aggressive. The Staffy was originally bred as a fighting dog, so it does have a tough side but trained and treated well it’s a softie at heart.

Looking After Your Dog at Work

It’s a common sight for dogs to accompany tradies to their worksites these days.
