Austates Following Codes of Practice for Termite Management

There are many independent and franchise pest control businesses in Australia, so what can you do to set yourself apart from the crowd? First and foremost, it’s important to adhere to codes of practice.

The AEPMA, in conjunction with the ACCC, have just released the updated and fully vetted Industry Code of Best Practice for Termite Management.

Following these codes of practice is optional, but it’s the best guidance for maintaining a professional and prosperous pest control business, especially if you specialise in termite management.

The best part? You can be publicly accredited as a signatory of the codes, meaning that your business will be positioned well above its competitors.

The Australian Environmental Pest Managers Association

The AEPMA represents pest managers across Australia and set standards for their businesses. They also provide a wealth of information for Australian consumers and recommend reliable and compliant pest control businesses for their use. You can register to become a member of the AEPMA through their website.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission

The ACCC protects business and consumer rights and promotes fair trading and competition. They regulate industries to ensure that companies are adhering to compliance and being transparent in their business transactions. It is in your best interest to adhere to the codes of compliance outlined by the ACCC. Therefore, applying to become a signatory of the ACCC endorsed AEPMA Code of Best Practice for Termite Management, would greatly benefit your business.

Get ahead of your competitors

Did you know that there are over 9000 pest control businesses in Australia? Approximately 2000 of these reside in QLD. What are you doing to get ahead of your competitors?

Becoming a signatory of the Code of Best Practice for Termite Management will accredit your business with more reliable and trustworthy services. This means that you can advertise your company as being fully compliant with these codes for five years, attracting a much wider array of customers.

Becoming a member of the AEPMA also means that your business will be placed in a database of pest control companies that will show up when a potential customer searches for pest control in their postcode.

How to ensure you’re adhering to compliance

Being a member of the AEPMA and a signatory to The Code means that you obviously need to prove that you follow the compliance outlined. For example, these are just a few of the codes that your business must comply with:

  • Pest management businesses must ensure that they are “allocating appropriate time, materials and equipment to all termite management jobs to ensure treatments are completed on time and with no compromise to quality.”
  • Pest Managers must have “accumulated a minimum of two years’ experience in pest management, including management of active termites.”
  • After treatment, pest managers must “provide each client with an approved format ‘Certificate of Treatment’ and also install, in an approved and appropriate place, a durable ‘Notice of Treatment’.”
