Camping with the Kids

by Dec 20, 2019News

School holidays are the perfect time to bring the kids to the great outdoors! Kick them off the screens for the holidays and help them spend it the same way you were able to- outside and camping! Austates specialises in decking out your ute with equipment to store your tools during the week, but on the weekend they are a fantastic addition to storing all of your camping gear. So pack up the ute and head on over to one of these great camping spots to keep the kids busy!

Thunderbird Park

Packed full of things to do, Thunderbird park is perfect for families who don’t want to stop on their vacation. Some of the things to do include; thunderegg fossicking, crystal panning, laser skirmish, bird feeding, horse riding and mini-golfing but the stand out activity is the Tree Top Challenge! The Tree Top Challenge is a ziplining course that is fun for the whole family, with levels for every age group. Thunderbird Park has accommodation options ranging from classic camping sites to a 4-star resort, so whatever your camping style there is a bed to suit your fancy.

Conondale National Park

Bring it back to basics camping in Conondale National Park. These sites have no phone service and no generator policy, once seen as an inconvenience, now the best way to make sure you really switch off! Camping at its most stripped back, you’ll get the chance to use all of your best gear! To keep the kids busy there are great hiking tracks and swimming holes. Conondale National Park is far from typical luxury but it is a spot that you can really adventure and spend quality time with the family. Please be mindful of the current fire restrictions if you are to holiday in the area.

North Stradbroke Island

An island getaway that won’t break the bank, North Stradbroke Island, or ‘Straddie’ as the locals call it, is a camper’s dream destination. Straddie is home to loads of different camping styles, from unpowered sites to glamping, all right on the beach. If watersports are your thing there is plenty of fun for you here, with pristine beaches framing the whole island. If you would rather keep your feet dry there are plenty of walks, bike trails, cultural tours and even sandboarding (think snowboarding but down huge sand dunes). Something to suit everyone’s taste no matter what age.

Lake Ainsworth

A chilled out lakeside spot with all the classic campground activities. Lake Ainsworth is positioned about 2 hours south of Brisbane, just over the NSW border. The campground is located near both the beach and the beautiful tea tree stained lake, perfect for swimming, watersports and fishing. A brief walk or bike ride into town and you will have access to a little township with cute cafes and small shops, perfect if you need to refuel during a longer stay. Lake Ainsworth is a quaint location that will help your family to connect through fun activities and laid back living.
