If you’re guilty of always heading to the tried and tested local pub with your mates, it’s time to broaden your horizons. We’ve rounded up a selection of the best new pubs and bars in Brisbane so you can still enjoy good food and drinks but get a change of scene. You might even want to get dressed up for some of these ones!

Brisbane Brewing Co

Nestled in West End this watering hole is an extension of a brewery and a place you can sip a cold one while you watch the brewers in action. Brisbane Brewing Co, where “fresh beer tastes better”, is beer nirvana with eight house beers and two guest brews on tap. If none of these take your fancy, you can choose from something like 70 international bottled craft beers. If beer isn’t to your taste then wines, spirits and cocktails can also be had. Menu wise you’re looking at generous share platters and degustations made from fresh local ingredients with a touch of the inventive.

Blockhouse Eat + Drink

If you’re looking for somewhere classy to venture but still get a decent drink and meal for your buck, then Blockhouse Eat + Drink manages to tick both boxes. Situated slightly further afield in Nundah, it’s still just a 20-minute drive from the CBD. Catering to casual drinkers, diners and locals wanting takeaways, this new kid on the block is all fresh white paint, shady verandahs and black-tiled bar. Champagne is the drink of choice here but you’ll also find a good selection of international wines and tap beers. Share platters make for intimate dining and conversation with a tasty and interesting selection.

Sazerac

If sipping on a cocktail of rye whisky, Peychaud bitters and absinthe while soaking up gorgeous views of the city skyline sound like your kind of evening then head to Sazerac. Perched atop the Four Points by Sheraton in the CBD this new high-rise sky bar enjoys sweeping views across the city from 30 storeys up. The rooftop bar takes its name from its aforementioned signature cocktail, originally concocted in New Orleans in the late 19th century. The cuisine here is tapas style grazing and it’s a popular after work drinks bar.

Tippler’s Tap

Catering to craft beer aficionados, Tippler’s Tap in Grey Street near South Bank is the kind of pub where you can relax and wind down after a hard day’s work – and chat about beer ‘til your hearts content. One reviewer has described the choice of tipples here as ‘staggering’ with one wall stocked with bottled craft beer, and another featuring ten taps with ever-changing beers. If you can’t decide then, tastings can be had. Wines and spirits also feature on the drinks menu. Food-wise it’s all about digging into hearty Chicago-style hot dogs, pulled pork sliders and American cheeseburgers – knife and fork optional.
