Hose Reel Swivel Repairs

We get a lot of calls regarding hose reel swivel repairs.  They are pretty easy to do yourself so take a look at the instructions below and watch Steve’s ‘How To…” video to get going.

Get Your Hose Reel Swivel

  1. Use an open end spanner to disconnect the hex-nut from the hose reel.

  2. Disconnect the hose.

Dis-assemble

3. Fasten the swivel in a vice with the 2 lock-nuts facing up, be careful not to damage the swivel.  We’ve put it between aluminium soft jaws to protect the brass base.

4. Use an open end spanner to secure the lower lock nut while using another spanner to loosen the top nut.

5. Remove the 2 nuts, the washer, and the outer-body of the swivel. You should be left with the inner-body of the swivel and the o-ring.Remove the old o-ring.

6. Remove the old o-ring.

7. Yours will probably need a good clean with a wire brush

Putting it back together

8.  Take a bit of o-ring grease or vaseline if you don’t ahve any, and smear it on the surface of the inner-body.Put the new o-ring on.

9. Put the new o-ring on.Apply more o-ring grease (vaseline) over the new o-ring.

10 Apply more o-ring grease over the new o-ring.

11. Re-assemble: outer-body, washer, lower nut (finger tight), upper nut

12. Secure the lower nut while tightening the upper nut.

13.  When you’ve locked that up, you should still be able to turn the outer body freely, but not too loose and not too tight.

14.  Finally add around 5-6 turns of thread tape.

At the end

Now you are ready to put it back into your hose reel.

REMEMBER:  Don’t overtighten here.  It has a slight taper and you don’t want to damage this by overtightening.
