Camping is a pastime that many of us love the idea of but in reality, unless you like roughing it, sometimes it can be hard work. Since we’re always on the lookout for ways to make camping easier, we thought we’d share these ideas. See what you think!

Tootpaste Dots

This idea is based on the fact that you don’t have to lug around a tube of toothpaste if you’re packing light. Simply make toothpaste dots depending on how many days you’re away, let them dry, sprinkle them with baking soda and then pop them into a small bag. When you’re out camping in the bush, and you get that furry feeling, put one in your mouth and chew, sip water and brush.

Lantern Jug

Forget your lantern? No worries, if you have an empty water (or milk) bottle and a headlamp, you can easily make an ambient portable lantern for reading or any other camping activity. Just fill the bottle with water and affix the headlamp with the light facing inwards. The water diffuses the light so it’s not so bright.

Organiser

One of the annoying things about camping is trying to keep track of all the stuff you packed. A cheap plastic shoe organiser from a discount store is a brilliant way to ensure everything’s in one place, especially if you’re planning on cooking a few meals on your trip. From candles and cutlery, to hand towels and condiments, you’ll be the most organised camper ever!

Duct Tape Quick Fix

A first aid kit is a necessity when you’re camping as accidents can happen when you least expect them. But if you forget it and someone gets a bad cut then using a strip, or several small strips, of duct tape can be a handy alternative. But be sure to seek proper medical attention afterwards.

Hot Dog Solar Cooker

While this may not be a solution if you’re starving hungry, it could be fun to try out if you’re bored. All you need for this solar cooker is to eat a lot of Pringles first and find some sun, something we’re not lacking here in Oz. Oh, a sharp knife, skewer and something to pierce the bottom of the tin will help! Find out how to make it here.
